Background |
Calmodulin belongs to the calmodulin family. Calmodulin contains four EF-hand domains, each of which binds a calcium ion. Calmodulin is a multifunctional intermediate messager protein that transduces calcium signals by binding calcium ions and then modifies its interactions with various target proteins. Calmodulin is involved in many crucial processes such as inflammation, metabolism, apoptosis, short-term and long-term memory, immune response and so on. Calmodulin undergoes two post-translation modification, ubiquitination and phosphorylation, resulting in a decreased activity. |
