Background |
C-C Motif Chemokine 21 (CCL21) belongs to the intercrine β (chemokine CC) family. It is highly expressed in peripheral blood leukocytes, pancreas, and liver, with moderate levels in the thymus, spleen and lung, and low expression levels in the small intestine, placenta, and prostate. CCL21 elicits its effects by binding to a cell surface chemokine receptor known as CCR7. CCL21 shows preferential activity towards naive T-cells. CCL21 may play a role in mediating homing of lymphocytes to secondary lymphoid organs. |
