HSD17B14 exists as a homotetramer and converts oestradiol to oestrone. HSD17B14 is a cytoplasmic protein and is highly expressed in the brain, liver, placenta and kidney. Moreover, HSD17B14 has NAD-dependent 17-β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity that takes part in the metabolism of steroids at the C17 position and of other substrates, such as fatty acids, prostaglandins, and xenobiotics.
