Human MEP1A precursor contains a signal peptide, a propeptide and mature chain including one EGF-like domain, one MAM domain, and one MATH domain. It is inhibited by several hydroxamate compounds, but the most potent inhibitor is actinonin. MEP1A interacts with MBL2 through its carbohydrate moiety which may inhibit its catalytic activity. It is highly expressed in mammalian kidney and intestinal brush border membranes and in leukocytes and certain cancer cells.
